Pray with, and for, other Leaders and Churches in your Area

CityServe information day:

On Thursday Oct 9 at the Albion Park Uniting Church, around 50 local church leaders gathered to hear a presentation by Rick Prosser and Jason Cleare on how CityServe has impacted the city of Newcastle.

The statistics were impressive, the outcomes amazing.

Jason, The Council project manager for CityServe didn't focus so much on how such a huge project is managed, but on how he became a Christian through contact with the Christian community.

Rick shared at length and answered a lot of thoughtful questions from those present.

Key points were:

This is not a platform to preach but to build relationships.

We don't drive a faith journey but work at a value level.

Our role is to institutionalise a culture of collaboration.

Churches, when working together, can focus on pastoring a city

CityServe must spring from a spirit of unity, it's not just about projects.

The church workload is typically one weekend in October.

Resources include:

Presentation summary (2 minute read)
Letter that came with a gift of $1000 from Newcastle to help get Shellharbour CityServe up and running
Details of first local project November 1st at Little Park Shellharbour
Download of CityServe promotion video (this is only available for a few days)

The Shellharbour mayor, Marianne Saliba, has already indicated that she is very positive and will promote the Mayoral Prayer Breakfast and CityServe on their website and within Council.

Regional Events:

Rev Jim Wilson, an Anglican minister from U.S.A., has had a series of meetings with leaders in the Illawarra. He is a remarkable man. Jim is driven by a desire to contribute to a world wide awakening. He recognised Australia as being a "covenant nation" with a Christian heritage and wanted to encourage Christians to not fold under attacks on our historical Christian values. He has seen places where there is unity amongst churches and the transformation of cities. He was given the opportunity to pray for the mayor of Shellharbour.

Humour:

A young preacher preached a message to a congregation on a special occasion.
God richly blessed the message and it hit with great impact.
The young man enjoyed the obvious appearances of success, and afterwards, going home with his wife, evidently thinking over and enjoying the results of that powerful ministry in his own heart, he said to her, "I wonder how many great preachers there are in the world?"
His wife replied, "One less than you think!"
