Christian leaders who see the whole city as his/her pastorate....

Pray lots for the city or area.
Get to know the political, business, community and social leaders personally.
Team up with other leaders and churches.
Are comfortable with and promote combined church and church/community events.
Grow their church members from being a one day audience to a seven day army.
See and use differences as diverse strengths.
Get nervous about a culture of conformity, routine and compliance.
Are flexible, listen, learn and love.

Remember, the spiritual life of the city is our responsibility

Along these lines, we have the Wollongong By-election on Saturday November 12th. The Christian Democratic Party are looking for volunteers who can man polling booths, chat to and bless voters as the occasion arises, plus pray for the outcome of the election. This is not a waste of time. Lets get visible!
We can meet Paul Green at the Shellharbour breakfast on Friday (see below)
Contact Michelle Ryan in Sydney on 9633 3255 or Dennis Bagnall locally on 0402109831
Also remember in prayer Michelle Blicavs and Chris Connor, local Christian City Councillors.

It's a bit scary when a man immersed in the Scriptures and filled with the Holy Spirit speaks with a unique anointing.
Be inspired.

Excited Feedback from the Movie about Hillsong 'Let Hope Rise' (from one Patron)

Opening night, Thursday 6th October, the cinema was full. I saw people I knew from churches across our city - many I hadn't seen for years! And I found out about a few new churches that had started in recent years... During the movie we all sang along, some stood and worshipped, many of us cried and laughed. Just like all good movies there was drama, comedy and action. But this one clearly had the touch of the Holy Spirit. Watching the journey of Hillsong United was truly inspirational and encouraging to see how God is working across the planet through music.

When the movie finished, we didn't just put our popcorn in the bins and leave - in fact the ushers had to encourage us to leave the cinema! We all hung around for at least half an hour after the movie and talked. It was just like being in Church - the service was over and it was time to fellowship... It was great to catch up with old friends and people from our neighbouring churches. There was a real sense of God's presence - that we were His children and His family getting together.

Some couldn't make it on the night but I know many attended that weekend. The movie was shown around the country and whilst we don't have the actual statistics, we believe the impact of the Movie on our Illawarra Churches alone has been amazing.
(The theatre won't confirm the showings or numbers, but it has been reported that the sessions were extended)

"The more diverse a team, the greater the effectiveness"
A quote from Pastor Paul Stevens, ex professional NRL player speaking at the recent Pulse 94.1 AGM Dinner. Paul applied this to rugby teams and the Body of Christ.

This saying is also food for thought as we choose friends, staff, leaders and those who we hang out with.

United call to Prayer & Fasting for Marriage & Families through October 2016

This call for prayer originated from the Bishops in the catholic church and it is the most historic biblical combined church prayer event in the history of the Australian church. It was supported by the Sydney Anglicans (Archbishop Glenn Davies) and other Anglicans all over Australia, Lutheran church of Australia, Baptist church of Australia, Salvation Army, Seventh Day Adventist, Assembly of Confessing Congregations within the Uniting Church, Orthodox churches, C3 (Sydney) Christian Revival Crusade and the Australian Christian Churches. They took up the challenge at a national level and shared the call with state leaders and encouraged them to run with this call for prayer and fasting for marriage and families. Many other churches and prayer ministries too numerous to mention also supported this historic prayer call.

Bible Talks
Bishop Reg Piper is delivering a series of 8 Bible Talks on 2 Corinthians from 12 October to 30 November in the Ocean Room of the Town Hall.
The Apostle Paul addressed a number of issues that still dog our churches today - power struggles, collection for poorer churches, gossip - and did it under the most stressful circumstances.
All of this was done by recalling the churches in southern Greece to the basics of the gospel.
The Wednesday lunch time Talks run from 12.45pm to 1.15pm sharp. Doors open 12.30pm to 1.30pm. All free. All Welcome. Further info 4284 1128

In these 40 daily devotions, Reg Piper enables readers to 'accompany' Paul on a chronological guided tour of his life and ministry. Studies for Lent and other times.

CityServe Update

Outdoor Area for the Special Needs Department

An Update:
To the Pastors of the Shellharbour Area
Good morning,
I am writing to your in regard to the CityServe Project at Lake Illawarra High School. The Project is to create a space for the students to learn and socialise in. The first use of this area will be for the year 6 primary school children to attend their transitions days for Year 7.
The area so far has had two working bees:
1. September 24th. Clearing of the compound of trees, old bricks, old disorderly garden beds and rubbish.
2. October 15th we attended in force with 76 volunteers to build 7 large seating benches, erect the four pergolas, create new gardens and to lay turf.
To complete the project we need to install the roofing on the four pergolas, pour the concrete slabs for the pergola and outdoor kitchen area and create the crushed gravel paths.

On Saturday November the 12th we will be returning to Lake Illawarra High School to complete the CityServe project.

In consultation with Glen Fairweather and Dean Piccarillo from CityServe Shellharbour Community Church we ask that you may announce during your next services and/or by email to your member congregation for any tradies and handymen that may be able to assist in this final part of the project.
We need:
8 - 12 men to complete the pergola roofing.
2-3 Qualified concreter tradies for the concrete slab
10 Men and women with wheelbarrows to bring in the crushed gravel and complete the paths and some good labourers.
Would anticipate up to 30 volunteers in all would be great.
Could you please ask anyone keen to assist in completing this project to reply asap so we can determine numbers of tradies and labourers for this event.
I am happy for them to contact me by mobile 0417 027 472
Cheers
