1. Encouraging news is all around us, stretching our vision.

Billy Kennedy and team from Southhampton in the UK told us about churches coming together under the Pioneer network
These churches have opened 3 new community schools in the most deprived areas of the city. They are spearheading the adoption and fostering of children, and are taking an active role in the management of the city. The city has turned around, crime rates dropped and new industries moved in.

During the presentation, Billy pointed out that in the Middle East, when a Christian is about to be martyred, he is not asked what denomination he belongs to.

Wonderful Feedback:
The first ever One Heart combined churches praise and worship event was a great success with over 300 people from at least 20 different churches gathering to worship together with one heart and one voice
We would like to thank everyone who came and especially thank all who volunteered. It was recorded and filmed throughout the night and will be released on video soon. The team is looking forward to running a repeat event in 2017.

'Let Heaven Come' is a twenty four minute LIVE worship session including two covers and three spontaneous originals recorded and filmed in Sydney at A Sharp Recording Studio.  Released on YouTube
(This really is a high quality, professional worship video!)

From Kate Jutsum, a doctor working in an emergency ward at a hospital in the UK:
"Amazed and thankful for the impact on suicide in this city since this May. When the churches and people started praying we were in a horrible run of child and youth suicides. Actually THE day we started praying, those suicides ceased for an entire month, ....
In the last month a new community network has been established here specifically to go after suicide and this weekend there's a Walk for Hope-equivalent happening which is targeted specifically at suicide prevention.
Research shows that no-one really knows the real drivers behind the fluctuations in a community's suicide rate. It is one of the most volatile areas- and volatile areas are ALWAYS more vulnerable to prayer. In fact, I would almost go as far as to say that the suicide rate in any one city is directly proportional to the amount of prayer going on around suicide-prevention in that city. Prayer saves lives because salvation, deliverance and life are the nature of our Father.
When the church comes together it gives permission for a community to come together under the favour of God against a problem that faces everyone, and the city wins."

(Suicide remains the leading cause of death for all Australians between 15 and 34 years of age, despite decreases in the suicide rate over the past decade. ABS)

News From Ian Shelton (One Heart Ministries) based in Toowoomba:
Ian was visiting our region a few weeks ago to encourage leaders and was asked to give un up to date picture of what's happening in Toowoomba.
It's great to see some of the same things happening in the Illawarra:

Ian says that leaders are continuing to meet together regularly. Key leaders work with the Mayor (including developing a strategy to make Toowoomba a porn free city), there are regular city wide Christian events, and most politicians are now Christians.
Several churches report how easy street work is now and how responsive people are to be witnessed to and prayed for even in public.
Before pastors began praying together there was not one really life giving church in town but now there are dozens of them.
One young man said in their church plant in his house group of 23, half were unsaved.
There are a stack of good ideas from Toowoomba in the KCI website.
To quote Ian: "We just want to encourage pastors and leaders all over the nation that this is a new season and God is at work in a fresh way. I believe the main season of harvest is ahead of us. I was with a group of young people praying over the city tonight and the sense of God at work and the coming breakthrough was just powerful. Very thankful to the Lord'.

A lady from Shellharbour reports that during a ministry time in church, she was seeking prayer for healing. Everyone was busy except a man in a wheelchair.
She approached the man in the wheelchair and asked him to pray for her.
He replied that no-one had never asked him to pray before!
She said "I was looking at your abilities, not your disabilities"
He prayed for her and she was healed.

2. Coming Events:

United call to Prayer & Fasting for Marriage & Families through October 2016
The Catholic Church has shown leadership in calling their community to prayer and fasting for marriage in October. This is in response to intense lobbying, media campaigning and political pressure to dismantle the meaning of marriage and all it stands for. It takes some time to unravel the truth and implications behind this issue. The Aboriginal, Muslim and Orhodox worlds don't get a say, and the media are continually looking for gaps in the historical Christian worldview on marriage, and sadly they are finding many.
Before the Bible believing community begins to sort out a plan pre plebiscite, we need to get on our knees before God.
This is the time.

City Women Illawarra is inviting the whole Illawarra community of parents, teachers, counselors, pastors, youth workers and anyone who cares for our young generation to gather on Saturday, September 24th for an important mini seminar.

Monday, September 26th @ 7:30PM
Salt Church, 275 Keira St, Wollongong
In August, a couple of local YWAMers travelled to Turkey to document 'Building Leaders for Peace', a week long peace camp which brought together 75 young people from Syria, Turkey, Iraq, and North America. They'll share good news stories from this groundbreaking initiative as well as local reports about walking alongside our Middle Eastern community in the Illawarra.
The stories are powerful almost beyond belief. Be prepared to be filled afresh with faith, hope and love as we hear what these young people have experienced.

Bible Talks
Bishop Reg Piper will deliver a series of 8 Bible Talks on 2 Corinthians from 12 October to 30 November in the Ocean Room of the Town Hall.
The Apostle Paul addressed a number of issues that still dog our churches today - power struggles, collection for poorer churches, gossip - and did it under the most stressful circumstances.
All of this was done by recalling the churches in southern Greece to the basics of the gospel.
The Wednesday lunch time Talks run from 12.45pm to 1.15pm sharp. Doors open 12.30pm to 1.30pm. All free. All Welcome. Further info 4284 1128

In these 40 daily devotions, Reg Piper enables readers to 'accompany' Paul on a chronological guided tour of his life and ministry. Studies for Lent and other times.

Shellharbour Prayer Breakfast. Friday October 28th.
Join with us as we celebrate the work of City Serve and pray for our city.

We are honoured to host Member of the NSW Legislative Council, Paul Green as the keynote speaker for the Shellharbour Prayer Breakfast for 2016.

Paul was elected to the NSW Legislative Council in 2011 after previously representing his city as Councillor for Shoalhaven City Council and Mayor from 2008 to 2012. Paul now works alongside Rev. Hon. Fred Nile MLC, bringing a Christian response to policy and laws. Together they hold the balance of power in the NSW Upper House. Paul is known for his fairness and impartiality amongst the state colleagues and the constituents he has the privilege of representing.

Paul brings with him words of encouragement from years of experience in leadership and public life that undoubtedly has had many highs and lows. He will share how his personal faith had helped him navigate the journey.

It is our pleasure and honour to warmly welcome him to our prayer breakfast this year.
