1. Encouraging news

There is just so much Christian activity happening in the Illawarra, it's too much to list!

Churches generally seem to be on the front foot,
There is a heathy Kingdom perspective,
New pastors and ministers are popping up everywhere,
Leaders are talking to each other more,
The spiritual warfare we find ourselves in is becomming more clearly defined,
Young people are leading the charge in worship,
And importantly, prayer is begetting prayer... and that's exciting.

Last Saturday CityServe descended onto the Warilla Swimming Centre.
There was an army of about 70 volunteers present including many young people. People came from around 10 different Shellharbour churches. They made repairs to buildings, painted, cleaned up, planted trees and spread some tonnes of mulch. McDonalds and a local coffee shop helped out with food and drink. Organisers report that it was a fantastic day!

Last weekend about 1000 people dropped by the Winter Markets in Wollongong hosted by the Salt Church Wollongong
There is a brilliant story and a great picture in the Mercury, follow the link
For churches looking for creative ideas to impact a community, there are a few good ones in this local news item.

Another example of a church 'getting right into it' at a local level

***An 'unseen ministry', one of many in our region***

Saturday September 17th 5.30 pm
The India Relief Foundation International Dinner
Northern Illawarra Uniting Church, Princess Hwy Bulli.
Host: Vi Knowles
Guest speaker: Esther King.
Dinner $20 per head. This must be paid at the time of booking. Vi does most of the cooking herself!
Vi is a 91 year old single lady who, for zeal and commitment, would put most of us to shame. Her burden is to rescue and provide schooling for the very poorest of children in India. This work is happening amongst a background of growing persecution of the non Hindu minorities; pastors are now being murdered.
For more information, contact Vi on 4271 7571

4. Humour

Some people are kind, polite, and sweet-spirited until you try to sit in their pews.

If God is watching us, the least we can do is be entertaining.
