NETANYAHU SAYS WE HAVE BROKEN ANTI-ISRAEL BOYCOTT CAMPAIGN

Israel has defeated the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) campaign, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has proclaimed.  Under questioning from opposition Knesset members, Netanyahu defended his government's handling of foreign relations despite serving as his own foreign minister since his re-election in March 2015. Netanyahu presented a color-coded map to illustrate the increasing number of nations that have forged (or are seeking) formal diplomatic relations with Israel. "People say we are isolated," Netanyahu said. "What isolation are we talking about?" "We are acting against BDS and is this why they are on the defensive," Netanyahu said. "They are taking hits on many fronts. We have beaten them."

In a recent analysis for The Jerusalem Post, Benjamin Weinthal, a research fellow at the Foundation for Defence of Democracies, illustrated Netanyahu's point by describing a number of ways that the BDS campaign was suffering from "economic warfare with financial assaults." Much of this stems from anti-BDS legislation passed by a growing number of states, including Illinois and New York, where multinational corporations have their headquarters. In one instance, the threat of being boycotted by New York state prompted Commerzbank, Germany's second-largest bank, to close out an account held by Germany's BDS campaign.

In another case, G4S, a global security firm that does business in Illinois (among many other places), claimed earlier this year that it was halting some of its operations in Israel. But after Illinois passed a law mandating that it divest its pension funds from companies that boycott Israel, G4S explained that its decision to halt activities in Israel was made solely for business reasons, not to support a boycott, and that other arms of the organization would continue operating in Israel. Recently, the tables turned on the Spanish city of Santiago de Compostella, when the Israeli airline El Al exited talks regarding starting direct flights to Tel Aviv after the city council passed a resolution in favour of boycotting Israel.

Since Palestinian groups first launched the BDS campaign in 2005, foreign investment in Israel has nearly tripled. BDS leaders have repeatedly affirmed that the campaign aims to eliminate Israel. BDS co-founder Omar Barghouti, an opponent of the two-state solution, said in 2014 that Palestinians have a right to "resistance by any means, including armed resistance," while leading activist As'ad Abu Khalil acknowledged in 2012 that "the real aim of BDS is to bring down the state of Israel."

OUTRAGE IN ISRAEL AS UNESCO PLANS TO DECLARE TEMPLE MOUNT MUSLIM

Israel was outraged to learn recently that the U.N.'s heritage body was planning to adopt a resolution declaring the Temple Mount sacred to "Muslims only."  The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization's (UNESCO) 21-member World Heritage Committee is set to vote on the resolution, a joint Palestinian-Jordanian initiative, during its annual meeting in Istanbul. The resolution calls for a return to the "historic status quo" on the Temple Mount, which it sees as favouring Muslims. In June, UNESCO adopted a resolution deciding to refer to the holy Jerusalem site only by the name of the Muslim mosque on its grounds - Al-Aqsa - in all official documents. The current resolution is far more radical, and to Israel's surprise, it has received the European Union's blessing.

Political sources told Israel Hayom that Brussels' decision to back the move most likely stems from the ongoing crisis between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the EU, which seems to be escalating into an actual rift. "Israel is very concerned by the EU intent to propose a resolution negating the Jewish people's link to the Temple Mount. This would be an alternative proposal to the Palestinian draft currently being discussed by UNESCO's World Heritage Committee during its meeting in Istanbul," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement. "The EU's proposal continues to deny the Jewish people's historic ties to Temple Mount, despite France's apology in April, admitting it was wrong to support UNESCO's decision to address the Temple Mount only as Al-Aqsa mosque."

NETANYAHU SAYS HE CARES MORE ABOUT PALESTINIANS THAN THEIR OWN LEADERS DO

In a video address, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu slammed the Palestinian terror group Hamas for stealing millions of dollars in international aid slated for the people of Gaza. "I, the Prime Minister of Israel, care more about Palestinians than their own leaders do," Netanyahu said in a video address posted on his Facebook page. Netanyahu's remarks focused on the recent reports of Hamas operatives who worked inside the Gaza humanitarian aid organizations World Vision and the United Nations Development Program to funnel millions of dollars in aid money to the terror group over the last several years.

"Recently, the world learned that Hamas, the terrorist organization that rules Gaza, stole millions of dollars from humanitarian organizations like World Vision and the United Nations," Netanyahu said. "Innocent and impoverished Palestinians were denied vital aid supplied from nations around the world. Hamas used this stolen money to build a war machine to murder Jews. I want you to think about that. Let that sink in," the Israeli leader said.
